Default New motor, what do you think

I just bought a short block from Performance Automotive Warehouse. I bought a set of AFR 185s, edelbrock rpm intake, and a 600cfm performer carb. I was wondering what kind of hp and torque you think this combo will make, i also need some help getting the right cam(this is a daily driver, but it doesn't have to be legal). Here is what i got:

Seasoned Block
Oversized Competion Honed
Forged pistons
Moly Rings
Connecting Rods/chromoly rod bolts
Custom Ground Crank 10/10
Choice of Hydraulic or solid Cam-need help with cam guys
Double Roller timing chain set
Hi Vol. Oil pump
Custom Balanced
AFR heads
RPM intake
600cfm performer carb
MSD HEI Ignition

I'd like to hear about your experience with the PAW engine. Quality, reliability, etc. They have been around forever, but I kinda looked upon them like I would a JC Whitney as a supplier. What did you give for the short block - or long block?

With the 185 heads it will be rather close to about 6k on a 302. Not realy the best street heads for a 302.

If you want a better 302 short block that the PAW (definitely JC Whitney class IMHO), give Victory Engines a call at 216-251-7157 (www.victoryengines.com). They've got one or two 302 short blocks for sale that they just finished up. This shop does all my engine work and has earned every ounce of my trust and respect. Give Ray a call and see what they've got available.

BTW: Ray's not too hip on email so call rather than email.

they have jc whitney class products, but they also have qaulity brand name performance stuff too. I payed $1200 (not including taxes, can't quite remember with taxes) for my 302 short block and that is with forged pistons. Its 1100 with hypers.

Did the short block stand up to rpms and any beating? For how long?

don't know yet tmoss, its still sitting on the stand. Im waiting for a few more paychecks so that i can get a upgraded tranny. Still don't know whether or not that cheap superduty t5 from ford racing will be enough, or whether I should go with a tremec for a couple hundred dollars more.

For a Tremec you might consider X2C Motorsports' version. They rebuild the new trannies and blueprint them...they hold a lot of power! And the price is right too. www.x2cmotorsports.com
As for the engine, that is a lot of cylinder head for only a 302/306. Too much IMO for a sub-6000 engine, but it can be worked with. Look into a Comp Cam hydraulic roller (assuming this is a roller blocK). They have the better of the off-the-shelf designs and those heads will make use of the extra lift.
