HELP! 6 to 8 swap
i have a built 302, and i want to drop it into my 65 which has a 170ci straight 6 in it. i need help. ive been researching for about a year now...and i dont have much. if you guys know anything that you think i should know before dropping this engine tell me. im planning to put a T-5 in it. i have a 1986 donor car...and i am also wondering if the parts off that car will go onto my car? any information would be usefull. thanks guys.

Re: HELP! 6 to 8 swap
Im doing the same thing as you are right now too. You will also need a new radiator, motor mounts, throttle linkage, v-8 suspension/disc brakes, and rear end. I cant think of anything else right now, but as with my car, it seems to just keep adding up.... Also, what is that CPC valve, thats the first time that i have heard about that...

Re: HELP! 6 to 8 swap
When I was your age I was doing the same thing and I thought that I could just drop a V8 in there. It turned out that for me it was cheaper to get a new car setup for a V8 without the engine than it was to do the conversion. Big things are the front suspension, transmission, rear end, and one other thing is that I was told that the front torque boxes would need to be changed too. That is a major deal so I decided against it.

Re: HELP! 6 to 8 swap
Torque boxes weren't in the 65... that might be a consideration to make, especially if you want a torquey power plant. At the very least, be sure that the frame is in tact and solid.

Re: HELP! 6 to 8 swap
Probably a lot easier to buy a V-8 car, then do all the coverting, unless you have a donor car.
