Track Times Down After Mods
My previous best ET's were 14.94 @ 94mph and 14.96 @ 91mph. 60 ft times were 2.266 and 2.319. Since then i have added my headers, Hpipe, 65mm T-Body, MSD Ignition, AND 3.55 gears. Today at the track my best time was a 15.099 @ 91.6mph with a 2.188 60ft. time. I ran similiar numbers all night. I was so pissed and I feel like i have wasted lots of money. It was hotter and a little more humid tonight...does this make more than a couple tenth difference?? Also can my car be running a lot leaner with all this air flowing in and out? Shouldnt my trap speeds be higher now and not lower?? HELP

Heat and Humidity can make a large difference. Also, did you run any different accessories this time? I know right now it is hotter right now, did you notice your engine temp this time and last? Not only will warm air be less dense, but it will effect the cooling of your car too. So add 20 degrees of heat to the engine(that takes 3-7HP from the block) and the fact that the air is hella humid and hot allready. I bet that could have added almost half a second to your time. Where did you go by the way? Unioin grove, or 66?

I was at Union Grove and My engine temp wasnt that bad...although waiting in the staging lanes doesnt help. It was around 200 degrees though. I am concerned about the trap speeds.

Does anyone have any advice? I would like to think the gears alone would have bought me a couple tenths...and with those headers maybe some top end HP.

It was very hot and humid when you ran it and that just kills performance. Your gears did help, you droped a tenth of your 60ft time. Take it to the track this weekend it is allot cooler and less humid. With good weather you should run low 14's all day.

Also don't forget, with the new gears it may take a little time to get use to them, it will alter your launching performance.

From that 60' time - it sounds like you're not used to your gears yet. Did you spin through 1st? The temp/humidity has ALOT to do with how you ran, though. How did the car feel to you, in general? Also, were the plugs gapped to MSD specs and what was the timing set at?

Yeah i have street tires on...like my sig says i use firehawks. Although my first couple runs with the new gears i did spin i got the feel for them and improved...2.2 is not bad i dont think. I am thinking of getting an adjustable FPR and making the pressure 40-42. Think that would help. Maybe i will try with better weather too.

I'm sorry to say this, but what you are experiancing is the loss of tons of torque.
Your 65mm T/B, shortie headers, and high flow H are robbing tons of low end torque. Your engine still has the stock heads/intake on it, so no matter what else you do, you won't be seeing power up high. The gears should have helped offset the torque loss, and that heat and humidity is probably why you are still running the same. I can't remember anything about the ADS superchip, is it an off the shelf chip? If it is, running 13* timing could have had you pinging and the computer retarding timing down the track, since most chips advance timing for you. |

Ya junk the chip...that's exactly what an ADS chip is...junk. How they can claim the hp and tq numbers that they do is beyond me. You dont need an AFPR right now, and the EEC compensates for the adjusted FP anyways. Try again on a cool night, but even if it was hot and humid, those times still seem way off.
