MSN CarPoint Used - 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT

Doesn't look like that half of a bad vehicle. 300hp, 3.0L, V6, Turbo charged. Still ain't no Stang though.

That's what I figured you meant when I first saw this thread, but wasn't sure. I really can't help you, though, as I've never done one of them before. I can tell you that the book time to remove & install is 11 hours, and the book time to remove and recondition is just over 38 hours. Sounds like a nightmare to me. Take pictures and notes as you go. They may mean the difference between a happy experience and dead postal worker.

Take care,
-Chris

remove and recondition? what does that mean? i meant remove and replace. is that the same? it took me about 23 hrs, but i was not just dedicated to just that one. i kept getting distracted by other work. really its not that bad. i would do another one if the opportunity came along. i could do it faster the second time, now that i know what to remove first! i took it for a test drive. man what a rush! it boost up to 12lbs of boost from the factory!! definetly a kewl car. pictures? they are all in my head. down the nuts and bolts. i dont want to sound conceited Chris, but i dont need take any pictures. once in awhile i have to label a couple of things, but majority of the time i remember it visually.
hey, how do you get your personal message over your avatar? i looked all over the settings and cant find it! can you help?

It's about halfway down the profile page.

Book time (for an indy shop, a dealership's book time is about 20% less) for the job you did is 10.7 hours. R & R & Recondition includes changing the rings, rod and main bearings, freshening up the heads, and a basic tune up, book time: 38.7 hours. That's alot of time. Especially considering how much longer than book time it takes the first time you do a job. I would lose money. If you only spent 20 hours R & R the engine, your pay got cut in half for two and a half days. With an R & R & R, that would be half pay for two weeks. I can't afford that. That's what I meant by crazy.

I know what you mean about pictures. That was just an expression, meaning pay close attention. For me, if it's not old hat, then I guess I just make mental notes about where things went, because I always seem to get them back together correctly the first time. Well, almost always. I still can't make sense out of rotary engines.

Take care,
-Chris

do that is what "recondition" means. i meant swap out the old motor and putting in a used one complete, but i know what you mean.
rotary motors? whats so hard about them? you used to somthing that has valves and a bumpstick? just think of them as a fortune cookie lawnmower that has redline of a drag car. i used to own a RX7, and you know the usual, the APEX seals were gone so the motor was ****. oh well, sold that piece.
