Default Air Conditioning

I just bout my 95GT over the winter and I took a trip to Florida in it and noticed a problem with the A/C that is going to drive me crazy. When I turn on the A/C it works fine for anywhere from 5min up to an hour. Then it just turns off and the blower is just blowing hot air at me (not hot as in it's being heated but as in the actual A/C mechanism stopped working [The Condenser I think?]) Then after a while it just kicks on again and the cycle starts over again.

I hear that A/C repairs can be very costly. What do I do?

It depends on what the problem is. Try turning the air on and watching under the hood. See if the A/C clutch shuts off, if it does it means that it isnt pumping and that would be why your ac dies. This is what my guess would probably be since isnt the only real moving part in the A/C. But if it seems to work fine you may have to take your car in a see if the system is still pressurized. Sometimes the refrigerant leaks out and that might also do it.

To test for low freon:
There is a Pepsi-can-sized container on the passenger side firewall. On it, is the low-pressure switch. Unplug the electrical connectro. Stick in a paper-clip into the harness (bypass the switch). If this makes the compressor kick back on and blow cold, you are low on freon...
