Tips for you drag racers
In our first session were gonna talk about how not to be like Jim.lol just j/k. This is for all you guys that have trouble with overcorrecting the car.
If you carry the front tires even an inch off the ground, you can't steer the car. If your going down the track going through the gears and the car begins to drift just a little bit to the left, you are automatically gonna turn the wheel to the right to correct it. You don't even know you've turned the wheel a half a turn until the front tires set down and the car goes crazy. It's not like the driver overcorrected; it's just that your mind and eyes are telling you to turn the wheel, so you do, even though they aren't on the ground. The next thing you know, they (the front tires) hit the ground and the back end wants to come around on you. How do you correct this problem? You lift. If you carry the front tires like i just stated, and you start to drift if you go to far with it, you crash. Hindsight sucks in this sport. People may seem to abort a run that, from the outside, doesn't look that bad. But i know personally that sometimes it just isn't going to be good. So i let it go and wait until the next qualifying run or load it up and get ready for the next race. I hope that some of you guys will use some of this next time you get the front tires off the ground.

I hope this info comes in handy next season. I might be lifting the d/s tire launching on the nitrous right now, all I can say is I'm not having a steering problem...yet.

Never know..if you use a jack like ryan's using you'll get the front tires off the ground.

I was using the stickey mickeys, they were 8" ET Drags on an old set of 10 holes and a bone stock suspension except for lca's. Already have my 10" ET Drags and plans for some suspension stuff for next year. I'm a workin on it

well i guess guy's who havent had to drive in the snow either dont think about over correcting as much but seriously i thought you were going to talk about turn reduction gears or diffrent steering racks we had a t bird that my dad had huge problems with turning the front end while still in the air he put in a diffrent rack and it help the problem the cure was also found at this time as there was a stripped part of the rack that would allow the front tires to turn left as the car cranked up and over to the right.

...sounds good to me!
That'd be sweet to be part of a Pro 5.0 team... if only we lived in the same state *sigh* I'd be more than willing to render my services as part of the pit crew. |
