aod no overdrive
i have a 1992 GT and the overdrive has been slipping and now its gone.the other 3 gears are fine.Does this mean a complete rebuild is needed or is there a switch or servo that is bad?tranny has 125k on it and i did a filter and fluid change last summer.

you need a complete rebuild. The AOD doesnt use any switches or servos

Same thing happend to me. I took it to a trans shop and they said in needed to be overhauled. They wanted like 1100.00 to do it For that price I could of bought a new one and the same thing would of happened again.
I will never own another AOD again unless it was some kind of built up monster from lentech or something, but those cost way to much cash for a lame auto.

even if you could just replace just the OD band, your tranny has 125k miles on it! it just wouldn't be smart, a full rebuild is in order. I was talking to a trans shop here in town and the guy said what makes the price so high is the labor thats involved.

I know a shop that does the overhaul for $150.00 if you take the tranny out and take it to them. Thats just labor for the rebuild. With parts, its $350.00, or you can buy your own hi-po rebuild kit for between $200 - $400, take it to the shop, and your total would be $550.00 for a bulletproof AOD.
