Post Missed a shift, now runs warmer than it used to

The other night I missed a shift and when i looked down the stock tach said 6 grand. that was as high as it got. Before ever doing that, the needle on the stock temperature guage (1993 LX 5.0) used to point directly at the line just below the middle line and run there all the time. Now it runs at the middle line and sometimes halfway between the middle line and the next one higher. It's not overheating or making noises, running rough, etc. I just want to know why missing a shift could have done that. I have stock cooling system throughout, including thermostat. Any reason why missing that shift could have caused that? I doubt it damaged the water pump by spinning higher ( i have a 25% underdrive crank pulley) and i dont see what the problem is. whats up?

weird, how many miles on you engine? that shouldn't do anything, 6k isn't that much (stock tach is probably off too) and the revlimit is at 6250. Was this just the temp right after 'the incident' or have you driven it a normal amount since?

68k miles. It started immediately after the missed shift (on the way to the dragstrip it was where it normally is, on the way home it stayed at that notch). That was Tuesday night and it's now Thursday night. It's still at the notch.) My engine is BONE stock. Not even roller rockers. Maybe the guage is just screwy or something. It at least works partly because i can see when the thermostat opens.

I should clarify that "that notch" in the above post means the middle notch, not the usual one.

You may have blown out a little bit of gasket around a water jacket, thermostat, heater core, water pump...somewhere where pressure could escape....just a shot in the dark though, check for leaks.

Thanks guys. I checked but no leaks, coolant level is good. That was last week.. then yesterday i made 18 dragstrip passes, and on the way home i noticed it was back to normal. I'm thinking now maybe the guage or the temperature sending unit is giving erroneus readings.
