Well yes I know that its basically just for looks but why not its under 200 and looks good but this is what gets me, mac or bbk, they both look good but the bbk one doesnt have that black piece that plugs in that says airflow on it and mac has the black plug in that says airflow, so what do I do??? BBK i can find at a place by my house for 179.99 but mac i have to order for like 189 plus shipping so is it ok for bbk to be missing that black plug in piece that says airflow??? thanks for any help

Considering a cold air kit does next to nothing for you performance-wise....
I would say get the one that looks best to you.

Hmmm,
To be honest I've looked at several pics of the MAC cold air kit, and have not yet seen the "plug-in" you are speaking of....

There are 2 versions:
One which is the MAF to fenderwell
The other is the throttle body to fenderwell, which includes a spot for your MAF

The above is a pic of the MAC TB to fenderwell system, I don't see any black plug in.

Could it be the MAF you are speaking of?

Do you have a pic so we can see what you are speaking of?

OH...

I see what you are speaking of...

It's your IAC valve tube... and I would REALLY expect any cold air kit to have one...

You should have 2 hoses up there:
The IAC valve tube, and a ventilation tube

You should be reconnecting BOTH hoses.

Here is a pic of the correct unit for your car. Also note that there are installation instructions on that page also.....

http://www.v8power.com/hazel-doc/MAC/3296.htm

When installing, don't forget your IAT and MAF connections either!!!

Hope this helps...

See thats the thing, BBK doesnt have any of that, so is that bad? The reason being is that i can get the BBK one for $179 at a shop by my house or i can pay 189 plus shipping and i have to wait a while for MAC'S to get it and pay more money, see thats why i'm wondering why BBK doesnt have any of that and if its bad not to have any of that hooked up, thanks

I don't think you are looking at the correct model BBK kit for your car...

IAC stands for Idle Air Control... I'm sure you can see that NOT hooking this up would be a bad thing....

Go to www.summitracing.com

Take a look here and enter part #BBK1718, which should be the correct model for your car...

Click on it and you'll see that the BBK ALSO has inputs for your IAC and ventilation...

I took a look at your picture... see the 2 tube extensions at the top?
That's what you're looking for... you're fine...

The black thing is just a hose....

The MAC setup on the picture is just using a hose instead of a hard extension that the BBK seems to use for your IAC.

Either model should connect easily to your IAC and ventilation runs... You should have nothing to worry about.

So we're back to the first question... which one LOOKS better...

I had the mac cai, and it gave me nothing but problems. Rough idle, stalling issues, and it tripped the check engine light with engine lean codes (the car ran real rich on the dyno). I have proof. I'd have to dig up the scans though. I put the stock stuff back on and all my problems dissapeared instantly.

The cai kit rotated the mass-air meter slighty (yes rotating it does affect performance) and the bend into the fender for the filter was right in front of the mass-air meter. I think that there was too much air turbulance, throwing off the meter's capabilty to measure air.

It took me a while to figure out where the problem was in my car. Don't make the same mistake I did. I had bought it for looks more than anything. Never again.

I'm not sure on the difference in the intake design between the cobra and the gt (the part before the mass-air meter), because I never really took a close look at the gt's design. Just trying to throw some helpfull advice your way so you don't end up having the same issues I did, because you wanted it to look nice.

Try to find a used MAC CAI from someone local, use the extra money for something else. No real performance gain from Cold Air Induction, but it looks good....
