could i win?
i have a bone stock 2001GT auto that has run 14.2 with a shitty reaction time. My friend has a 99 Z28 auto conv (also stock) . When ever we raced from a 15mph roll he pulls on me. But when we go for a stop i can pull a least a car on him till about 60mph. my question is were going to the race at the track on saturday to settle the grudge between us best out of 3 runs. I have been racing about 4 years at the track and know its alot different than the street he has never run a track before. If i pull a better reaction time (which i will) will i have enough of a lead to last the 1/4 mile? Thanks

Seriously, i don't think you can take him. both auto, and with him being the convertible, i think it will be really close, but i think he will take two out of three.
Unless he REALLY can't drive, and you get like a .5 seconds on him on reaction. That would be a different story. P.S. after i posted i looked at your location. I worked in monmouth county for a while. my company has another branch down there, and they needed my help when they launched a new product. I was on the road that goes by the main entrance of oldbridge, and this guy pulled out with a viper, followed by an old chevelle or something. behind him were four or five mustangs. i found out after that day that it had been a magazine shootout, and they were doing the track tests that day. Useless knowlege, came to mind because of where you live. sorry bout the rambling

if you have that much of a jump you just might be able to pull it off.

R/T has nothing to do with your 1/4 mile time. It's added in for your overall time in bracket racing though.
He pulls you from a roll, but you get him out of the hole. Even if you have a car on him at 60mph, he's probably pulling at that time, and he'll have another 9sec or so to pass you. That's a long time to hold off a faster car with only a 1 car lead. |

if he gets a 1 second lead, figure he's 30 ' (assuming a 2.0 60' time). now he's about two car length's, that equates to about 2 or 3 tenths. i said it would be really close.
i don't think they are racing for 1/4 mile time. i think they are racing to see who gets there first.

If you run a genuine 14.2 with an auto, you might stay even with him for a bit.
I run a hair over 14-flat, and I jump LS-1 coupes off the line. With an auto 'vert, I would probably get enough of a lead to hold them off up until 60+. As it stands now, they walk past me starting at about 40-45. So, um, in summary...I dunno. You might win, you might lose. |

It will be close. If your friend has one of these "all mightly I can run 12's stock" type cars you're in for trouble. Otherwise It will be real close, But, sad to say, I think he'll take you

It's almost Friday so I hope you have some money for parts. Buy a pair of drag radials, underdrive pulleys, a AFM Power pipe and practice your launch off the line. Strip your car of it's passenger and back seat, spare tire, jack and all the other crap inside. (There maybe a lane at the track that is sprayed with VHT for the Big Boys. Try to find out which one was sprayed and use it.) Good Luck! Keep us posted on how you make out.
