I am thinking about getting some simpson racing harnesses for my 5.0 and wondered which would be the best. I plan on getting them before I get my cage. I have stock seats, but I mainly need to now if I should get bolt in or floor mount and which type... v, single straps, or Y. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

please don't install a 5pt harness without a cage in the car.
The proper harness will bolt to your rear brace that spans the main hoop. Then your submarine belt (the crotch belt) will need to bolt to the floor. And I believe the lap belts can just bolt to your where your stock seatbelts go.

I believe the Y-harness has been outlawed by both NHRA and IHRA. They want individual shoulder straps, even though they can bolt to the same point on your cage. Wrap-arounds aren't legal in drag racing because they can slide on the shoulder bar. I've always used the duck-bill latches, only because they're cheaper than the quick-release latches. Your belts have to be re-certified or replaced every two years. That's what sucks. I've got a perfectly good set of Stroud belts at home sitting in a box only because the tag reads out-of-date.

Also, look at an NHRA or IHRA rule book. It'll show you the proper way to mount the belts so that tech doesn't give you fits.

Although i am from the deep south i loathe nascar. what the **** is up with that? no one gives and fat shit if you can make 195 mph left hand turns. Can you powerslide through a corner and maintain good lap times, can you fight through corners that are only two cars wide to snatch a lead?! I think not, road racing and the AMA can though. LONG LIVE SUPERBIKES and ROAD RACING!!!!!

Good call on waiting til the cage is in. The mounting of the shoulder belts is VERY critical!!! Without the cage, and the crossbar in the correct location, the only option is mounting the shoulder belts to the floor, and that is wrong wrong wrong. If you were to get into an accident with the belts mounted like that, you could sustain SERIOUS injuries, possibly spine fractures etc etc. Read up, and install the belts correctly, you'll thank yourself for it later. I see belts mounted the wrong way a lot over the summer, but funny thing is, it's always in a "street" car. For the most part racers know, and do it the right way. :D I just hate to see people get hurt for no reason, especially when they're trying to be safe in the first place.
