![]() Im thinking of installing a 4 barrel intake on my 1987 302
was told that i should change the cam because I would loose all the 4 barrel power if the proper cam is not in... Is that true? Is there a number to look for on the cam to say it works with a 4 or 2 barrel? |

![]() You don't have to change the cam. Try the 4-barrel first. Get a 600 cfm carb. Either an Elderbrock or Holley. Your choice. I prefer the Elderbrock for street driving. Easier to tune and stays in tune longer. My $ .02. You may like how it runs.
When you want a cam, call Crane's hot-line. Tell them what you have and what you want it to do and they will recommend proper cam. Most cam's that are installed are to big. Yeah, bigger isn't always better here. Ask for Tony at Crane, he knows what he's talking about. [This message has been edited by Gearhead999 (edited 07-17-2001).] |

![]() I'm pretty sure on just about all engines that they put the same cam in original 2-bbl engines that they did in original 4-bbl engines. Is that right?

![]() Ponydude: What induction system do you have on the engine now? By 87, all 302's should have been fuel injected. As for the carb, you won't have to worry about the cam mismatch. Otherwise the most popular swap in the history of cars wouldn't work without major modification. True, to get the most benefit out of a 4bbl, you need some more parts, but these include things like exhaust, ignition, and heads in addition to carb. You will be just fine switching to a 4bbl.
