Post 2 barrel to 4 barrel

Im thinking of installing a 4 barrel intake on my 1987 302
was told that i should change the cam because I would loose all the 4 barrel power if the proper cam is not in...
Is that true?
Is there a number to look for on the cam to say it works with a 4 or 2 barrel?
