![]() This is my first project car and havn't had much luck running down a rebuildable 289 or 302. I do have a rebuildable 351m that i can latch onto for hardly nuthin, but I dont know what kind of modifications if any I would have to do to get the motor in and the hood closed. Since this is my first go around, I don't need things to get too crazy. Any suggestions?

![]() I think you are in for some work here. There have been people who put 351C's in early cars and the 351W conversion is well liked. But the 351m is a slightly wider than the the 351C which means exhaust manifold fit will be a real bear. Second problem, what is the condition of this 351m. This engine would be my last canidate for a rebuild as it has all the problems of the 400 and none of the benefits of the 351C. I would keep hunting for a 302 if it was me.

![]() the 351m is an entirely different engine then what you want. Just to give you an idea of its size....the bell housing for the 351m is the same a a 460.
you could make it fit, but do you want to cut your shock towers?? I am not sure of your location, but around here you kind find 302's all the time. There are plentiful and the 351 is not too far behind it. you do not have to have a certain year 302. SOme are better than others, but they will all work. I have a 74 302 in a 65 fastback with a 302. In the spring it is getting an 87 H.O roller short block. You will still have small things to change. depending on year the and tranny, the flywheel's may need to be changed....but any ford 302 will fit in your 65 with small accesory changes, and no car modifications. hopefully this helps you..... just for a little more help on finding the 302....go to a junkyard, tell them you want a rebuildable 302, shoul dbe able to pick one up for 150-200 dollars 65 fastback, 302, aod, 4.10's |

![]() The others are right. You really don't want that engine. You would have to modify the engine bay, beef up the suspension (351m much heavier than a 289), get disc brakes up front, etc.
