another one lost to the dark side
I have a firend who had a 98 ranger for the last 4 years. he had some little stuff done to it, it wasnt real fast or anythign but it sounded nice and looked good. about 9 months ago his older brother just bought a new lancer evo. After talking **** about how fast it was i told him to bring it up to the drag strip and we'd see how fast it really was. He gave one excuse after another and the track closed for the season. Now my friend sells his truck for way less than he should have so he can buy a new mazda sport protege. He sold his beutiful ranger for this slow 4 banger because he's had this obsession with turbos since his brother bought the evo. Now i just feel bad for him. I make sure to rev at him whenever possible so he can remember what a real car sounds like.

You said they were lost to the dark side, so where's the Grand National in this thread?

That Evo might be a horrible sounding turbo 4cyl, but it would probably beat your car....

The Evo would kill his car. It wouldnt even be close.
Lancer Evo's are bad @ss. If they were not 30K I would buy one.

i dont know, i think i have a resonable chance for 2 reasons. 1) the evo driver has never been to the track and is not much of a driver. and 2) i have other stuff for my stang than is in my profile, i just havnt updated it in a little while.

Evo's should have a starting line advantage through traction, but after that you should be able to hand him his arse pretty good.

The Evo's trap an easy 104-106mph and can pull a 1.6 on street tires.
I was skeptical too until I saw them run at the track. They are no joke I would rather race an 03 cobra any day. I hope your unlisted mod is an intake manifold.

Am I missing something from his signature?
94 Cobra, with a ported Cobra intake, TFS heads and an E cam. That should easily trap 106+... |

Lancers Suck.
Anyone who drives a lancer is at the least bisexual.

an Evo will run about a 12.9 - 13.0 bone stock, but will see good gains with minimal mods.

The Evo runs 12's with anyone that can drive worth a crap. As soon as the light goes green he will be looking at Evo tail lights and at that point he does not have a good enough HP to weight ratio to pull on an Evo. Especially if he has done a couple mods. JMO, If he proves me wrong I will apologize. My 01 cobra got waxed and I mean waxed by an Evo from a roll and especially from a stop. The evo's have my respect.

mazda sport protege - These things have turbos? I did not think they did at all 91GTturbo - "You said they were lost to the dark side, so where's the Grand National in this thread?" I like that

well the evo im talking about is bone stock, and has a driver that from what ive seen cant drive worth a crap. I think i have a chance, and even if i dont im not about to back down from rice even if i know i will lose.
as far as the protege goes im pretty sure it has a turbo, i mean it sure sounded and looked like a turbo.

The new 2003.5 MAZDASPEED Protegé ups the ante with new styling cues, such as a racing-inspired front air dam, a large, lightweight rear wing and four new eye-catching colors." Guess it does, but it would need a lot more to keep up with the SHO or my GTP

The M.S. Protege's main strength is handling. If I remember correctly, it out handles the highly respected Intergra Type R's of a few years back. The turbo and intercooler on the car are much too small to make any real power, and Mazda did nothing to beef up the engine, so its not going to handle a lot of boost like other turbo cars. But as far as total package goes, the MazdaSpeed Protege is one of the best sport compact bargins out there.
As far as goign to the dark side... it could be a lot worse. The Evo is a downright bad *** vehicle, no matter what brand it is. And the M.S.P. is a very complete package for the price.

i agree, the evo is pretty tough, and the msp isnt all that fast and it could be alot worse...however i still feel bad when someone who was once a huge ford guy who put tons of time into his truck turns to rice.
