Dynoed my car today.
I tested my car today on a Dynojet at White Racing in Warren, Michigan. The only tuning I tried was to run my base timing @ 35 degrees without a spout, compared to the normal 16 or so degrees of computer controlled advance.
The results? 309.6 RWHP and 310.7 FT-LBS. Peak power came in at a whopping 5700 rpm, while peak torque hit 310 lbs @ around 3500 rpm and stayed nice and flat until 5000 rpm where it started to taper off. This new Holley intake is awesome! My old GT-40 with the ported lower peaked at 5000 rpm, then fell of quickly after that. The Holley keeps pulling hard after that, and makes more torque for a longer period of time. I'm sure that there is another 10-20 hp in tuning and a custom chip, but that wil have to wait until next season. I also did not test with nitrous. When swapping intakes I lost my nitrous #67 jet, and did not want to buy the new jet, plus 40 bucks for a nitrous fill, just to make a couple dyno pulls. Usually the 150 dry shot gives you 130 rwhp and 130-150 lbs of torque, so 440 rwhp and 450 ft-lb's should be about where I am at. Correcting for a 15 percent drivetrain loss that is 356 horsepower and 357.3 ft-lbs of torque. Not too bad for an engine that I put together in my basement!!!! ------------------ 1988 Mustang GT 11.8 @ 123 (7/14/01) 11.5 @ 120 (9/14/01) 1992 BadAzz Wrangler 1993 Explorer See my car at: www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?179 |

You wanted to see that 300+rwhp mark so you tossed it on a dyno jet. lol I plan to dyno mine on a dyno jet once I do mine. Congrats that is sure a stout 302.

HA! Yeah, A Mustang Dyno probably would have shown 290 @ the wheels. Most of the 300+- LS1's on a Dynojet show 280-290 on Speedworks Mustang Dyno.
White Racing charges 100.00 for 2 "power pulls" only. Or it's 175.00 an hour. That is a bit pricey from what i've seen out there. |

I thought the Mustang Dyno was supposed to be optimistic "a la Skyman". I guess the debate goes on, hee, hee.

Yup, that's what I've heard from my DynoJet guys. The Mustang is programable for correction while the Dynojet software does the correction factor automatically from the software and a thermometer.
BTW, I don't believe that the DynoJet correction factor is really that good. It gave me a +1% from actual when the temp was 106 F. Thats correction to SAE which is supposed to be 77 F. Atmospheric pressure and humidity are completely ignored in the DynoJet correction. Both dynos probably both have shortcomings. Nice numbers. What a difference an intake makes!
I think the guy just screwed with me on my dyno pulls. I got fucked. I will get it back to a dynojet sometime for real numbers. Nice Numbers! Between running the spout vs total timing, which made more power?

Sky, You said Fucked. You did not get *****'d!!!
About the spout removed total timing trick, I set it at 35 degrees of advance rather than the 16-17 that I had and saw no difference in peak hp, but there were a couple more ft-lb's across the midrange. And yeah, the Mustang Dyne is supposed to read a lower number. Dynos like the Superflow and the Mustang Dyno were designed to do a wide range of vehicle testing, not just please us gearheads! ------------------ 1988 Mustang GT 11.8 @ 123 (7/14/01) 11.5 @ 120 (9/14/01) 1992 BadAzz Wrangler 1993 Explorer See my car at: www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?179 |

it's best to do runs on the same dyno too, I ran mine before putting headers on, got 255rwhp/293rwtq.. put headers on it and ran it on a different dyno and got 243/275.. but I picked up over 2MPH in the 1/4... both were dynojets too... go figure...

Umm, I hate to state the obvious, but SuperFlows are engine dynos while DynoJets and Mustangs are chassis dynos.

Getting anything over 300RWHP out of a n/a 306 is very good IMO. I think those numbers are right in line with what mph your car runs considering the weight of that car as well.
Nitrous is a torque monster. I wouldn't be surprised to see your car put out 480-500+ RW ft-lbs of torque on the sauce. Nice numbers! ------------------ Jeff Kane 1990 LX Mustang Coupe |

Thanks,
I saw on Speedvision this past weekend a Ford Falcon with a Crate 351 that they put on a Superflow Chassis dyno. That's what they said anyway. They even said that numbers on a Dynojet would be a tad higher because their dyno adds more resistance to the rollers to simulate wind resistance and frontal area of the car. How it would accurately figure all that out, I have know idea. I am just a dumb plumber. ------------------ 1988 Mustang GT 11.8 @ 123 (7/14/01) 11.5 @ 120 (9/14/01) 1992 BadAzz Wrangler 1993 Explorer See my car at: www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?179 |
