Thumbs down Mustang World, How dumb can you get?

Quote:
Tech Article at MustangWorld:

I was racing my new mustang, my engine gave me trouble at high rpms, what could this be ?

Don't worry, you probably hit the rev limit built into your stock ECC computer. The stock computer will not let you rev your engine real high, depending on your Mustang, this limit could be around 5000 for the 5.0, 6000 for the 4.6L GT and 6500 or so for the 4.6 Cobra. If you noticed a "putt, putt" type of sensation at very high rpms, then it's most likely the rev limiter. The rev limiter reduces the fuel flow to the engine at high rpms to prevent engine damage for warranty reasons (which is smart for Ford). Racers can buy a chip that will raise the rev limit (or remove it), so you can venture into higher rpm levels at your own risk while racing. If you are running a heavily modified Mustang, then it could be your fuel pump is starving the engine at high rpms.
You know, I've heard some really dumb stuff about the site, but this is one of their tech articles. Not only do they manage to grossly misrepresent fuel cutoff engine speeds, but they didn't both to check the article enough to make it EEC, not ECC. They also talk about them road racing with plugs in their tires and all kinds or ridiculously stupid stuff. That is the site's technical article stuff.

Terrible.

Since is wasn't a reference to a specific EEC, maybe it was just an abbreviation for "Engine Control Computer"?

I used to hang out there b4 somone on that board gave me a link to mustangworks and corral... the rest is all history. Most of the people on there seem to have newer mustangs and there are a lot of v6 owners. I hate to say it but I see a lot of the rice mentality on that site too even though it's about mustangs.

Exclamation Misunformation on the net

After reading Unit's message, I had to check that site out for myself to see what else they might have incorrect.

Not much, as a lot of the 'Q&A' covers broad subjects that don't have a specific answer. Sort of like a fortune cookie that says: 'You'll receive good news soon.'

Some of the 'Q's' are no-brainers and have obvious answers. You can't go wrong by stating things like 'The MAX/AC setting will give you better mileage as it recirculates already-cold air'. You could discover this by reading the owners manual, so it's not impressive information.

They do advise using a 50/50 coolant/water mix in your radiator, even in warm climates. Not necessarily correct. They over-state the benefits of anti-freeze (retards corrosion, mainly) and fail to note that a 30/70 coolant/water mix is usually quite sufficent to gain the anti-corrosion benefits of the anti-freeze and still get the improved cooling that only pure water can offer.

Like any website, Mustang World makes mistakes. That's O.K., but the fact that no one notices or correct them is kind of surprising. Another good reason to stick with Mustang Works Online. We're not perfect either, but if we get it wrong you'll let us know and if we make a factual mistake, we'll correct it. It's called: Integrity. A hallmark of Dan McClain and this website.
