Default Bill Rimmer Crashes Into Steve Grebeck!!!!!

Ive just heard that at this weekends FFW race a major accident has just occured i dont know l the details as of yet but all i can tell you is at approx 3/4 Rimmer loses control and slams right into Grebeck. Rimmer got out ok but Grebeck wasnt so lucky, ive been told that his eyes opened up but cant breathe on his own.

FFW has cancelled the remainder of the race and released no further details.

just pray Steve will be ok and have a speedy recovery.

That really sucks man. This is the first I've heard about this.

What's weird is that I was just looking (last night) at the MW media center, FFW section and saw the wreck in 2001 in Ennis b/t Larry Felts and Kinson Cook (Felts hit Cook). Both walked from the wreck, but only Cook was able to continue the competition. Felts car was done.

Your description sounds very much like the one in 2001:

http://www.mustangworks.com/mediacen...yFeltsWreck.rm

I really hope Grebeck comes through okay.

I post on Corral as N20DOH. I was there yesterday when a shop owner I know's car got loose from a gust and got air and hit the retaining wall. They postponed the Pro 5.0 cars for awhile. They let a few run later on yesterday afternoon, but Grebeck got way out of control on a solo run and they shut them down after that. My friend is there today and said Grebeck was airborne and was then airlifted.

The track conditions were attrocious at best and I would not have driven at 175 + mph in them. There was a steady 15-25 mph headwind with gust probably upwards of 40 mph. Not good weather for drag racing especially with the dust that was being kicked onto the track as well. I'm saddened to hear it took this for them to realize how dangerous racing under those conditions could be.

My thoughts and prayers are with Steve Grebeck and his friends and family.

This is indeed a very sad day in the Mustang world. I hung around the Grebeck/Halprin pits at the World Finals last year and he is a really nice guy, as is everyone in his crew. It is not going to be the same this season with him not around.
My condolences go out to his family and friends.
Rest In Peace Steve

As to what i originally posted Rimmer did not lose control of his car as i was first told, Grebeck lost control of his car(its speculated its from the wind), went air born, hit the wall and landed right in front of Rimmer's car. Rimmer never had chance to avoid colliding with Grebecks car.

I had the privelege to see Steve work in his shop as he was completing a car for a friend of mine as well as talking with him at such events as WFC 4, and the NMRA race in Byron, and all i can say is he will be sorely missed by all of us that knew him personally.

my condolences to the Grebeck family, the Rimmer family, Steve Grebeck Racecraft Inc., and all of those who saw this nightmare unfold.

R.I.P. STEVE, WE WILL MISS YOU AND NEVER FORGET YOU.

I feel sorry for the people who never got to see (or hear) that car run. It was definately a thing of beauty (to see and hear) Those of you who have, you know what I am talking about. Steve played a huge role in the evolution of late model mustang racing. He (and the show he put on) will definately be missed.

Here is a link to an excellent article about him.

I agree with andy669. When I first saw (and heard) his car a few months ago, it was jaw-dropping and I was an instant Grebeck fan. I thought it was the baddest car on the planet. I am really going to miss seeing him and his car.

THIS IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two of my buddies made the trek from Virginia Tech down to FL for the event, and I had heard nothing about any bad weather beforehand...sometimes I wonder what the officials are thinking when they postpone shutting down a race....probably about the ticket sales, but for christ's sake, I went to Orlando last year, and I'd much rather leave disappointed then with one of my fellow Mustangers DEAD

Godspeed to Steve *vroom*

I have also heard the rumors about the track being sold and rebuilt but I have not heard anything is final yet. As to what Belle said also, the officials HIGHLY advised against running the pro50 cars but the racers (evidently) decided to go ahead with the race against strong winds. I follow the Pro50 series as close as I can and I will miss Steve personally. I've met him a few times and he was always real cool with the fans. We talked for 20 minutes just like we had known each other all our lifes. He was always supportive of the sport and he will be truly missed.

God Speed Steve.
