Question Mustang Models

This is what I've been thinking about lately. During the '79-93 era, there were all kinds of Mustangs to chose from. You had choice of the LX hatchback or notchback, diff engine sizes, diff rear end gearing. You had the choice to get a GT, with those options as well. There were also the Cobras. They had the Saleens as well. Plus there were special models. Moreover, they were all pretty well distinguishable, ie, looked diff and had there own characterstics.

Nowadays, yeah, we got the V6s and the GTs, the Cobras and Saleens, but their really isn't as much versatility (diffs in them in terms of looks). Maybe it's just me, but that is something I've been noticing. And yeah, there are a good amount of special model Mustangs, Bullit, Mach 1..., but they all look pretty much the same to me.... (don't get me wrong, the Mach 1 is beautiful).

Anybody else ever feel like this???

I see where you are coming from. But, if you think back to the fox years, the fact that you had a notch, hatch, or vert was a big difference. But, other than that, the differences then were probably as subtle as some of the ones now.....hoods, fog lights, etc.

If you had a nothcback and hatch to play with in the SN-95 years(along with the vert), then you would notice more of a difference.

well man, i love my 2k, i love my 95 vert, but i'm working on getting a 64 falcon, swap my 69 grande running gear in it, just want a dfferent ford & happen to like that bodystyle, plus a guy with a 69 mach 1 is dying to buy my 69 body, he even offered to go get it, pull out the running gear & bring it too me. , so i hope to kinda break even on the falcon & see if he will help me put the stang, engine, tranny & rear end in the falcon, then i will drive away, leaving him the 69 stang for part's. win- win situation i guess, lol.

I agree Think how the 1999 and 2001 Cobra owners feel. We had a different hood then the V6 and GT's now the 2003 and 2004 V6's have the SAME hood. Plus they have the same Smoked fog lights. MY 01 looks just like an 03 V6 except it has fog lights, different rims(Which most people with get new rims soon after buying the car) and snake emblems.

And the dual exhaust, the taillights are different... and the ability to pull like a ***** off the line compared to the V6. =) The only people who can tell the difference are the ones that count.

But I do know where your coming from.....

Yes, GodStang, that's pretty much exactly what I'm talking about. Like I said b4, I love the newer stangs, ESPECIALLY the '99+ ones, it seems like, in some small ways, Ford just got lazy... maybe not, I dunno.

Hethj7, of the foxes, the only ones that looked almost the same, really were the LX 4-cyl hatch and notch compared to the V8 LX hatch and notch, but still they had a different "presence" and even the V8s had a 5.0 badge on the side, whereas nowadays, they all have the same horse. Also, there were the GTs which were EASILY distinguishable from any other Mustang models during their times (ground effects, spoiler, fogs, etc). Also, all GTs were hatch or verts. This is more of a diff than the GTs todays which are either vert or "notch" (is that correct term?) and the body looks VERY similar to the V6s. Moreover, all GTs had fogs, but LXs didn't.

Crazy Horse GT, hope that deal works out for you with the Falcon. That'd be a cool car to drive.

Fox,
Unfortunatly, the margins on all cars are way down. That's why there isn't such a big selection anymore. Besides that, when cool cars do come out, people don't buy them. There are Mach 1's and Cobra's sitting on lots being sold at what equates to a GT's sticker price.

And that's with only four different engines. Cars are lasting longer and people aren't buying new ones as often so we should be lucky to get three different v8's right now. Which is better than the foxes considering all v8's any year were the same, with the exception of 93 and the Cobra.

Not to mention now Roush and Steeda are selling new cars, while Saleen is supposedly only builing S7's.

I can attest to that. My local dealer has a beautiful Red w/black stripe 40th anniversary Mach 1 sitting on display for a few weeks now.

Another dealer in town has 5 2003 Cobra's that they are offering $6,000 off the sticker price. That makes the Cobra one very attractive and attainable sports car.
