Will 91 302 Heads do any good on a 67 Galaxy????
I have a buddy with a 67 Galaxy and he wants a little more "go", we were thinking about putting my old stock 91 5.0 heads on his 289...will this do any good? also, do you guys recommend a moderate cam for that engine? im more a mustang guy, so i have no clue what to tell him...he has an edlebrock intake and a holley 650? cfm carb...any suggestions?

I'm going to assume your buddy has a 289. If so, don't swap the late model heads onto the old engine. Your buddy will lose compression and the heads don't flow any better either.
Cam choices are iffy....really depends on the individual....one person means something TOTALLY DIFFERENT than the next guy when they say MILD CAM. I'll take a stab at it and recommend the 260 Comp Cam. I've always liked that cam in a 289. Tell him to get the matching spring set too. ------------------ 66 GT Fastback 5.0, 5-speed, cable clutch, JBA's, 3.40 gears, EFI coming soon? |

Thanks for your input..what if we have the 302 heads milled to save compression, then i was thinking with a bigger cam, higher flowing heads will go fine with it..yep its a stock 289 with 50K on it.

Sure you can mill the heads to keep the compression. It's quite a ways down to the old 289 heads 54cc's, and you MIGHT have to mill the intake also. I'm not sure if you have to or not, so ask the machinist.
You can improve the flow of these heads some if you grind out the air injection bosses from the exhaust ports. |
