![]() Hey all.
My pal with his 97 GT is looking to convert his top end from the GT's SOHC setup to a cobra DOHC setup. What all is needed for this conversion? Right now we have already gotten a deal on the new heads, cams, sprockets, covers, and that's about it. Will we need new injectors and a differently calibrated Mass air sensor? Thanks for any help. He really needs help catching me in my Z ![]() ![]() ------------------ T-Topped 1994 Z28 Not Stock |

![]() Heads (cams, springs valves, ect), intake manifold, throttle body, sprockets, timing chains, timing chain covers, computer, wiring harness, MAF, 24 lb injectors, and it goes on. And even if he does do all that, the GT short block will have lower compression, so he still won't make as much power a stock Cobra motor.
It would be a lot cheaper and easier to either one, buy a Cobra engine (http://www.seanhylandmotorsport.com is a good place to look) or to add a blower and do some work to his existing engine. |

![]() Not even worth the effort. Just do what I did...sell the GT and buy the Cobra. A world of difference!

![]() I agree with T-Bone. Just get a Cobra. Or ... buy a Cobra motor.
Go to www.stangparts.com. They sell the Cobra engine. If that's what you really want. ------------------ SMOKE Personalized Black 98 SVO Blown ROUSH without the side exhaust ![]() |

![]() Doesnt the cooling and oiling passages differ from the SOHC and DOHC? I was pretty sure they are diffrent. Can anyone shed any light on that?

![]() Cobra heads will mount to a GT block, and GT heads will mount to a Cobra block (the new Steedas for example).
The blocks do have some significant differences and the oil passages in the heads must be different, but they do match up from block to head. |
