Default a 64 1/2- 66 mustang coupe questions on tire widths and sizes & more

Ok guys heres the deal I really want a street driveable car taht basically dominates in all catagories. But sadly in reality thats nto happening so more importantly i was lookgin for a good ombination wiht maybe a 60/40 ratio of drag to road course car set-up

Thus the problem. First i dont knwo what tires will fit with the diameter and width
im pretty sure all 16's will wiht probalyl width up to 8inhes easilly

But im thinking something like 17X9 in fornt and 17X 10's in the back and those back tires will probally have as much drag properties as possible so the tire will probalyl be aroound 11 inches total width maybe a little less and be tall as possible.

Im planning on about 600 RWHP on a highly modified forced induction FI 5.0 block at around 7,000 RPM. Do you think this combo will actaully allow me to launch at the strip?

Or at what RPM?

5pd with 3.27 rear gears

If I put a 9 inch in there im gonna assume its just not gonna work?

Would i bring the rear end ot the mechine shop and have them cut it down liek a few incehs on both ends and beign the tires in more? If so how much does this cost?

All Other ideas woudl be helpful.

Also how much do those cars weigh something like 2800 ibs right?

Ouch, I think you are going to be really upset with tire sizes. The 64-66's don't have much room in there and I don't recall anyone getting 17's in there. I think earlier the discussion I remember was that the 15 inch p235 were pretty much max. Maybe 16 inch. I know I have little old 14 inch p205's and it isn't like there is a ton of room left over. The closest thing to stock size today is the 14 inch p195 so going to 17 inch wheels with big tires is a long long way from this.

Good news is some 9in axles fit just fine. The 55-57 (I think those are the years, real close to this) 9in are direct bolt in. Also the weakest 9in. The versillis Axle is real close and will bolt in, has disk brakes, but has the funny yoke to replace and the calipers are expensive. Of course currie can build exactly what you want.

Weight on these cars was listed at 2488 in 66, but I think that is the 6 cylinder with not a drop of fluid in it. Not real heavy though.

600hp, 5speed, 3.27 gears

yea thats about right on the weight. several people have told me my car wheighs real close to 2600 pounds. and it's A straight six.

and I have also been told that you can't fit more then 16's on A 64 1/2 - 66. my brother is A big fan of big rims. and he only has 16's on his 65.

You can fit 17x8's all around,I have pics of my 65 w/ 17's with 235/45/17 tires if you would like to see. Not to be a dick but you to shouldn't give out info unless you are sure. 17 inch wheels are a common size for our cars I can't go to a car show with out seeing a few.

Car craft did a real good acricle on that a while back. According to them you can run15 to 18 inches. Up front 7 inch wide wheel with 4 1/4-inch backspacing and225-section width. Rears are 8 inches wide with4 1/2 inch backspacing with 235 sectionwidth. Aspect ratios,15 inch-60"s:16inch-50's: 17insh 40's; 18inch-35. Hope this was helpful.

does anybody know what backspacing i would need to fit 15x8 inch rims, with P275/60R-15's on em in the back? I dont want them to stick out the side of the car, and i cant remember which way negative offset and positive offset go. I will probably use 15x7 front and 15x8 back cragar road stars.

If I was to add flares and kinda widen the wheel well on a 67-68 i shoudl be able to get another inch or 2 of rubber wider shoudlnt I for the back? Ive seen flares that were 3 inches wide so im assuming i can actaully be 3 inches wider on rubber. But probalyl more like 2 inches wider?

What do ya think?
