k guys am i gettin' screwed on my motor?

went to the shop today to get my estimate on my 347 im building ... estimate is about 4200 bucks - thats with decent rods, forged pistons, new crank, valves, springs, retainers and headwork, cam, lifters, pushrods, new balancer, flexplate, freeze plugs

i mean basically everything done for about 4200 to make me a short block (i said id take the heads home and bolt them on myself)

does this sound like a fair deal? i see crate motors on summit for about 1000 less than that

couldnt i just get a 351w and get the same power out of it?
i have till tomorrow to make my decision.

Check Coast High Performance. I've heard they sell high quality engines for a fair price. Remember though, you won't get any head work for a short block price.

Sounds reasonable for basic shortblock machining and assembly. Typical shop costs are $55/hour around here. Be thankful, my last S/W engine was the better part of $15k and I already had some of the parts! I'm just putting some new slugs, a new cam and new vac system on it this year and I'll have well over $4200 in that!

Never bought one, but the D.S.S. short blocks seem to be far cheaper in price......unless I am reading it wrong.

You could go with a nice 351 or even a budget 408 stroker for that money.

Seen it done.

thanks for the responses guys - i went to him today and told him to give me my stuff back :D anyways instead of spending all that on a motor i was thinkin about a 99-01 GT or maybe a 99 cobra kinda new to modular motors but yeah i can learn
