Removing A/C
I am thinking about removing the A/C from my mustang and getting the eliminator bracket from Summit. It doesnt blow cold air and I dont think I would ever use it anyhow. What all do I need to do? There is a canister that the A/C lines run to that is near the fire wall on the passenger side. Can this be removed also? I know the A/C is not charged but do I need to take it somewhere before removing because of the freon?(have no clue if thats how its spelled) Any info would be great. Thanks! Does doing this help with any hp?

youll probably only get 5 or 6 horse from removing the a/c but it will make your motor a lot more open (wont look as cluttered) you can remove the canister by the firewall, and everything that has to do with the a/c except for the core in the heater plenum(it wouldnt be worth removing that) you are going to have to get a new belt too, you will need a shorter one,if i remember correctly.
good luck |

You will not only gain a few hp, but you will lose about 50 pounds of weight off of the front end, where you don't want it. This will help with better weight transfer. You can remove all the lines, the compressor, the canistor, and the condensor. I put all mine on a scale when I took it off and it weighed about 50 pounds. ASP makes the best eliminator IMO. It retails for 69.95. It bolts in place of where your ac condensor used to sit. You must run a 1/2" shorter belt with this piece. If your ac is not blowing cold air, then chances are that the freon has already leaked out. The environmentally friendly thing to do is to take your car to a shop and have the system discharged so the freon is collected properly and not dispursed out into the air.

What if there is still any freon in the A/C? Is this bad to breathe in or come in contact with?

I went to the ASP web site and they are $74.95. MARCH has them through Summit for $41.95. Any differences in quality??

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I am leaning more towards the ASP kit. It just bolts right into the A/C braket that is already there. No removal of the power steering(motorsport) or belt tensioner(MARCH). Still curious about the freon and if it's good to come in contact with?? I am guessing there isnt any left since I am getting no cold air. How much does it cost to go to the shop and do it the environmentaly safe way? Thaks again for the help!
