Lighter the rod = frees more horsepower
stronger the rod = less likely it will end up through your block
longer the rod = more stroke
eagle h beam rods are very strong but weigh more than a stock rod so it will slow you down some. You can have you stock rods shot peened and polished to strengthen them up or go with a set of I beam rods. And theres always aluminum rods
