Question Can I plug H-pipe exhaust return?

I have an off-road H-pipe and don't feel like welding the little return pipe back up (muffler shop welded my fitting: pissed off). So I would like to plug it or just remove the pipe altogether while I've got the tranny pulled and am installing headers.

I cut my pipe and welded a small steel square over the hole.

why don;t you just go out and buy a heater hose and two adjustable clamps and slide them over return pipe and that is it.I don;t know what is going to happen when you plug it but spent a few dollars may not be that bad.
