i have an 88GT with the stock turbine rims on it .....i was looking at the 17x9 inch,4 lug, +18mm offset, 4.25 inch bolt pattern cobra R rims...im looking for some tires to wrap around the cobra's.....if i get the cobra's .....what kind of tires do you suggest for basic street use....and also....the stock Rims with the upgraded goodyears on there are almost going to rub against the fender so if i upgrade to 17 inch...i need a thinner tire....check my signiture for my pics...sum 1 help me w/ this.....

Get the tire store to tell you what size will fit, they can measure and tell you what size is appropriate. They do this all the time. The 17 inch tire will be shorter, probably a 45 or 40 series tire. I know it can be done, I just never saw the tire size. Cobra R's will look so much better than the turbines!

You can run 225/40/17's on all four corners without even coming close to rubbing. The overall size of the tire will be the same as stock.

I've got 245/45 17's and they rub when turned fully either direction. (not bad however) probably try 235/45's next time.

I have the exact same wheels in the rear and am running 275/40/17's and they look absolutely beautiful, perfect fit. The car is not lowered or anything but I believe they would still be fine depending on how your car sets. I'm running 245/45/17's on the front and they only scrub if I got the wheel all the way cut and am backing up but I do need an alignment and truly believe it wouldn't be a problem after getting one. I am running 17*8's on the front and wouldn't go any wider than that on the front.

the rub is no big deal. you learn to just not cut the wheels that hard. it's liveable. they look great too.
