who is doing the rebuild??
I did mine for about $169 plus $40 for a steel front bearing retainer It also depends on what is wrong with the tranny. Does it just need syncros, bearings etc. or are some gear teeth busted off? shafts broken?

I hear like almost $800 dollars some places charge for there "full rebuild" I paid $350 to have mine just fixed cause the car wouldnt shift into 2nd and I could of done what conman said and replaced them myself for like half of that.

T-5 really is disposable when you can get a new one shipped to your door for under $1100. I see people all the time have a shop put in new internals and with labor spend $900-$1000 and you could buy a new transmission and know that nothing was missed during a rebuild because it is new.

yes, if you can do the work yourself, rebuilding it can be fairly cheap.
if you have to pay a shop to rebuild it you should consider a new one, z-spec, or tremec 3550 as it will only be a little more money

Being in Illinois, if your just looking to have yours fixed, you might want to check out universal transmissions, one in Franklin Park, on Grand Avenue, they do good work and they stand behind the job they do. I had them rebuild a 727 Torqueflight in my 72 Dodge as well as the race minded franken-tranny (AOD / AODE 1/2 breed) in my current ride.
727 cost me all of $300, the aod+ was about $800 |

Yeah I think I'm gonna just go ahead and get a T-5Z. Id like a tremec but I dont have the money. I got a friend who will do it with a few of his buddies. Will the t-5Z bolt right up like the t-5? Also can I use a FRPP King Cobra Clutch with it? And finally, whats a good transmission fluid to run? Thanks for your help guys.

the only real difference between the t5 and t5z is the first gear ratio. this is a good thing if you already have gears. If you still have the stock 2.73 it might slow you down a little more but when you do a gear swap you will gain it all back.
king cobra should work fine as far as fluid, someone else might have a better idea maybe a redline, synthetic ATF would be best
