8.8 factory gear question.
There is a heated debate on another message board with someone claiming that 5.0's with T-5's came factory with 3:08 gears and the autos came with 2:73 gears with optional 3:27 gears for the auto.
I say that either car can come factory with 2:73's or 3:08 gears. I have an 88GT that's bone stock with a T-5 that has 2:73 gears. I know this cas has been untouched. Who's right? Here is the thread if anyone wants to see: http://www.mustangforums.com/m_35783.../tm.htm#358999

Re: 8.8 factory gear question.
I was always under the impression (perhaps incorrectly) that the "stock" gear was a 2.73, with 3.08 and 3.27 both being options, regardless of the transmission. ???

Re: 8.8 factory gear question.
It depends what year mustang you are talking about.
http://www.mustanggt.org/main.htm There is a site with all the different years. In 85 for example, stock manual trans got 2.73, while automatic got 3.27. In 86 3.08 became available for the t5.

Re: 8.8 factory gear question.
3:08 was an option for the T5
3:27s for the auto only
