choices choices
i was thinking of getting new heads to replace the stock ones i currently have. this is what i was thinking
351 C heads. orignal 4 bbl. but changing this means i would need a new intake. edelbrock for sure....and also new headders. or edelbrock 289\302 aluminum heads or trickflow 289\302 heads. what would be the greatest increase in power? if money were not an issue. also would i need a new higher carb? currently running 600cfm. also would i need a cam change? currently have stock or very mild.

I think that bang for the buck, is the Trickflows.
The 351C head conversion on a "W" block will let it breath. You also need a unique intake manifold and also have to do some minor water passage work. Different headers too.

here's my setup:
edelbrock 600 cfm carb edelbrock 302 airgap intake edelbrock performer cam #7121 Hooker competition headers custom dual exhaust with flowmasters I'm also deliberating between edelbrock heads and trickflows, i don't know what kind of horsepower i'm making right now, i've never had my car dyno'd, but i haven't put the cam in yet either, till i put in the T5. I think that either set of heads would be a huge increase in power over the stock heads, i've heard that they're about as useful as doorstops. let me know what you decide and how it works. i doubt any of this has helped, sorry...

A friend of mine bought the performer RPM kit from Jegs. It's a performer carb, performer RPM intake, cam, and lifters all in one package. He also bought the performer RPM heads to go w/ it. Runs great and not too rough(his opinion, I would have went w/ the torker kit). If you're not on a budget though I think I would look into the canfield heads.

They carry mostly late model parts, but they also carry a lot of stroker, ford performance, and race parts. They have the Canfields in stock for about $1000, stage 1 for about $1300, and stage 2 for about $1700. They also have the Brodix race heads for anywhere from $1400-3400. I think the Canfields would be a lot better suited for the street though. They also carry the edelbrocks stock, stage 2, stage 3, and pro-race port and valvetrain. Almost forgot, they also carry the Holley sytemax kits and holley heads in stock, stage 2, and stage 3 versions. They always have a good 3 or 4 page ad in muscle mustangs and fast fords. Hope this was of any help. I think they can help you put together a pretty wild motor. |

Looks like excessive motorsports site is still being worked on, but canfield heads site says the plain, cheapest small block ford heads they make are good for over 400 hp w/ an unported victor jr intake on a 306. You might pick up the magazine, their ad has a lot of stuff.

I've used 351W heads, professionally pocket ported and gasket matched that made 9.5/1 CR with flat top pistons (.012" down in the hole). They worked great for me on my 306.
I've now got TFTW heads, pocket ported and gasket matched, and yes there is an improvement as there should be for $1700 all said and done with TF 1.7 rockers, etc., etc. I vacillated for several years over which heads to buy. I narrowed it down to either TFTW or AFR heads. Edelbrocks are good, but the other two beat them out by a fair margin. If you might be interested in those 351W heads (25,000 miles since the engine was built) and including the Comp Cams roller tip rockers (rail type) and the correct push rods included, PM me. BTW, 351C heads won't fit the Windsor small block without major modifications. Rev
