![]() I just talked to my local machine shop and askced how much it would be to get my stock 302 rebuilt. He pried me at 1500 for building it stock and 1800 for putting in a B303 cam. He says with the B303 cam it would be pretty fast and would beat most of the mustangs out there. Would this be fast? Is it worth it? And, what other stuff should I have him do to this motor. For example, roller rockers, injectors, etc. I will be running stock heads and stock intake until I get a better intake like an Elderbrock. Plus my car is an AOD.
Thanks. |

![]() A b-cam will do not much, if anything, except give you a lopey idle and guarantee that you will fail your next emissions test. I truly hope the $300 includes the purchase of the b-cam. Even if it does, he's stickin you. In order to rebuild it right, he has to remove the cam anyways, so why would he charge you more money to put in a different one. The b-cam's are relatively cheap, no where near the $300 extra he is charging you. The RR's will help some by reducing friction and freeing up some power, as well as increasing the valve lift. If that is what you are looking for, I would suggest a different cam. Look at the trick flow cams. The stage 1 is, in my opinion, a better grind than the b-cam, and its cheaper. The intake will make minimal power increases without a good, high flowing set of heads. If you cant afford a good set of heads, I would at the least have the stock ones ported. The stock injectors are fine for your application. You dont need to get bigger injectors till you get upwards of 300+ hp. A good cleaning (and I dont mean the cheap stuff you buy at orilley's) of the injectors might do you some good.

![]() Dude! He is stickin you bad. You can get a block bored, cleaned, new cam bearings and freeze plugs installed for around $150. $60 to $75 for a valve job. About $60 for a crank grinding (if necessary). A good set of Pistons $300. Rings $50. Mains and Rod bearings $60. Short block= $700. B303 $170. RR's $250 Total Price of parts= $1120 roughly. Thats a lot of labor charges.

![]() If you are going to make big power with it don't go over .040. If it is in an old pickup or something, there ain't anything wrong with .060. I have seen .060 motors with 100,000 miles on them.
Oh yeah, it costs about $10 a hole to bore one out. $80 for a 302. But then you want it cleaned $20. New cam bearings and freeze plugs $30.

![]() I have to agree. The bcam is not really a good cam. I would go with a trickflow stage 1. And i noticed you said your car is an aod. Have you installed a set of gears? If you havent i would put in a set of 3:73s or 4:10s.. Id also get a good set of heads if you have the money. They make a world of difference on a 302

![]() For $1800, you might as well drop in a couple hundred more and call up DSS for a complete stroker small block. Then drop on some nice flowing heads and intake and you'll be well on your way to a kick-butt street car.
