Question Thinking of switching intakes

My TFS heads are ported with an E-303 cam, and 1.72 stud mounts. My intake is a GT-40 with a ported lower. It is ported to a Fel-pro 1262.
I was thinking of selling my GT-40 and buying a Trick Flow track heat, then dremeling the ports just a touch myself to match a 1262. The TFS intake is 450.00 and I hope to offset most of this cost by selling my GT-40. What do you guys think? Good idea? And any ideas on what my GT-40 might fetch? I have seen a lot of ported GT-40/Cobra intakes on Ebay going for close to 400 bucks. That just seems too high to me though...

Cool

Exgmguy, I think that would be an awesome combo for you. I love my TFS track heats - lots of mid-high range breathing power. I works really well w/ my Edelbrock heads, I'd think it would be even better w/ your matching heads. Go for it! I think you'd be able to get $300-$400 safely.

ExGM don't worry about the port match, unless you can see air molecules altering an intake is tricky business. Creating any angle greater than 7 degrees really monkeys up laminar airflow, if the step is facing toward the port I doubt very seriously that it will effect airflow and might even help if there is a some intake reversion. I say seat the lower manifold and see if there is any overlap by the gasket or intake port which would inhibit flow, if itgs clean bolt it down and bolt down the upper intake.

Cool

Even when I added the TFS track heat intake to my already existing Edelbrock Perfomer heads, all I had to do was gasket match. There was no need to do any port work!

Sock TFS heads use a 1250 gasket. The street intake uses the same gasket. I assume the Track heat does too. Problem is my heads are opened up more, so the air will travel through the intake and hit a "cliff" around the intake port for the head. This "reversion" is not a big deal? If not great. I'll bolt it on box-stock.

If what your saying is, the intake port has been opened up a bit larger than a 1262 gasket size port, then you shouldn't have any problems with flow through the manifold to the intake port (reference my cheesey drawings above), it will have little or no effect of airflow

Not a problem......it would be a different story if the intake runners were that much wider than the head port. Gasket matching will do in your case!

Hmm I don't know, but with heads opened up that much I think the Holley Systemax II will benefit U better. I personally cannot see that much improvement or gain with the Trickflow track heat over your ported GT40

I've heard lots of good things about the Holley intake, but the TFS track heats have much better flow #'s than the GT40.

My GT-40 lower is mega ported, but the upper cannot be opened up and is a major bottleneck for a high hp motor. Look at the TFS intakes. The street and track us the same exact lower.

Rob, You know I am all for TFS, BUT, check out this website for Anderson Ford, you will be suprised.

Go under "AFM in the Media"

Then under "Super Ford"

February 2000

They test all the intakes. I was thinking the same thing you are until I read that. Let me know what you think.
