![]() Guys. Long time no speak. Listen, anyone ever replace the entire wiring harness in an early model fox body? I have an 81, hatchback. I went out last weekend to a local hot spot. Had a few bites, but all were 14 second cars. Nothing real serious. I was letting off the last few hundred feet. Anywho, There is this badass vette that shows up there every now and again. No one has the balls to race him. Not even me. But for some reason I felt lucky. Half way down the track, my car bucks over and over, and finally it stalls. I was able to safely stop the car, but not before big white billows of smoke came out from the grill, front wheel wells, and all over under the car. Car never started again. Got it towed home, and found huge nests of melted wires. Started tracing the wires, and found a few that were grounded behind the firewall. Needless to say after the fire every wire under my hood is melted. I need replacements. So while I am at it, I am going to replace every wire in the car. I was hoping someone knew where I could find a new replacement harness for my car. I am going to rip the car apart and redo every part. Oh, in case you're wondering, the vette was kicking my *** . I never had a chance. I have heard rumors that he runs 10's, but never seen him do it.

![]() Can't believe no one has had wiring issues with their stangs! Does anyone at least know how many circuits are in the car? I could buy a universal painless wiring kit, and make it work

![]() I just did a wiring harness swap last week!
It's not fun!! I took the drivers seat out to get under the dash better. Under the dash there are 4 connectors that you must disconnect. They are each attached to a bar that hold them up under the dash. You must first slide them off the bar and then they will drop down far enough for you to pull them apart. After they are unplugged it will all pull out through the firewall. Disconnect the connections from under the hood. You will also have to unplug your parking lights and headlights because it's all connected in one big harness!! I got a complete harness from the junkyard for $10. Painless performance does NOT have a harness you need...I already checked when my wiring burned up last year!! If you lived a little closer to me, I would come help you out since it's still fresh in my head on what to do. It's not too tough a job. It will take some time and patience!! Drop me an email if you have any questions. ------------------ '82 GT 351W C-4,BBK headers,Carter 625 carb,Comp.Cam,Flowmaster exhaust. 1988 GT...T-5,bone stock |

![]() Painless is your best shot for a new harness. I have a used 84 non ac car harness if you are interested in it. But not sure if it will connect to your existing harness inside the car. Email me if you are interested. rustang@home.com

![]() Good man for having the *alls to give it a go, even if you went down in flames.
Much Respect. Sorry I cant help you on this one. If I had to do this, I would follow the owners manual for the car, buy several spools of wire, and go at it with my soldering gun and some heatshrink. I hate Ford wiring, and I did some moving of components to clean up the engine bay that required splicing and soldering. Good Luck, And hats of for having big gonads. |
