Rusty oil pan...repaint?

I've got some rust bubbles that have formed on my oil pan and I don't feel like pulling the engine right now to replace the pan. Is there any problem with sanding them down and repainting the pan while it's still on the car? A guy at a shop told me I'd weaken the walls of the pan if I sanded it down but I can't imagine it would be that big of a deal. The bubbles are pretty small and it's not like I would have to use a grinder. Anyone have any advice?

Just dont go crazy sanding it and you should be ok. Just rough it up a little with light gride sand paper or maybe a bit with a wire brush. That will be plenty for paint to stick to. I just sanded mine lightly with I believe 250 paper and no problems with paint sticking or walls being to thin.

Good Luck

Yeah....sand it down with somethnig in the 250 neighborhood and don't go crazy and yu should be ok. Try painting it over with some POR-15 (POR=Paint Over Rust). That sh!t works wonders.
