NHRA and IHRA Super Stock motors

I just read the "Small Stick Science" article in the 12/01 MM&FF issue. Ken Miele has a '98 Mustang with an '85 302 (306 probably) that ran a 11.38 at 118 mph. This is with a 585 cfm Holley, ported Victor Jr. intake, E5TE heads (1.78"/1.45" valves) etc. I realize that it's a race engine, but he's running better than my 306, S-trim combo in my Mustang GT. Comparing apples to oranges someone will probably say, but I want maximum power from my engine. How do these engines make so much hp and torque?

Hey Al, what do they have to weigh in superstock? I havent read that article yet, but thanks for pointing it out. Check out NMRA Factory Stock, those guys are equally impressive! 12 oh's @ 113 with a factory untouched intake, unported E7's, factory cam, 70mm tb, 75mm mass air, weighing like 3100. This is a very tire limiting class too! Only BFG Dragradials are allowed, and the guys numbers get alot faster bolting up some et streets when they are not at an NMRA event.

Andy, I glad someone finally replied to my question. I weigh 205 lbs. and the last time I checked, my Mustang weighed 3352 lbs. without me in it. But I'm going on a diet this winter and so is the Mustang.
