Ford cast Iron heads casting #s

I have a set of cylinder heads with these #s;
bottom of head by push rod tubes D0oE C(casting #s?)
on top inside valve cover(date code?)1F23
D=70s,right?0=1970,right?How come the date code is for
1971?Are these the small 65cc chamber heads,or the 69cc chamber heads?

IMHO, the 65cc chambered heads are still big. Anyway, as you already know, it was "born" on June 23, 1971. The D0OE were used from 1970 through 1980, and came with both 60cc and 69cc combustion chamber sizes. There should be a dash and another letter following the D0OE (ie: D0OE-B, or D0OE-G, etc.). That would confirm which one you have.

Take care,
-Chris

351 casting #s

There a "C" judt below the DO0E #,so whats that mean,Good or Bad?My luck,there the ultra rare 500cc chambers!The "C" means
Change level, but that still doesn't tell what chambers they have,I guess, unless you know!Maybe "C" would mean three year change as in 73?

You done good, Opie!

Those are 351W heads. Correction: those are the best 351W heads. They are pre 1978, which was the year the valves and the ports got smaller, while the combustion chambers got bigger. Specifically, your heads have:

60.4cc combustion chambers
1.84" intake valves
1.54" exhaust valves
1.94" x 1.76" intake ports
1.24" x 1.00" exhaust ports

Those are all among the best sizes Ford offered in stock form for the windsor package, minus of course the Boss engines.

The easiest way to tell the older, better 351W heads from the newer, crappier ones, is by the water jacket at the end of the head. Good heads water jacket opening is shaped like an upside down "L". Crappy heads water jacket opening looks like a regular rectangular port.

Take care,
-Chris

D0oE-C heads

How much would you spend on these heads to use them?
Every body wants me to go with the newer E-7,But I'm hard headed!I owe the guy @ machine shop big time for all his help
and I want to throw a few $$$ his way,so I really would like to use these heads! If there the small chamber 60cc,on 84 short block(out of T-Bird,non-HO)what kinda C/R?
I want to put in a flat tappit cam I have(lift @ valve in .472
ex .496,dur@.006 in 298 ex 300=torker grind rebranded by PAW)
What do you think?

I'm not in a mathematical mood this morning, but as far as using them, I say go for it! They're good heads!

Take care,

Born on date!!!

It just crossed my mind that, like some brands of beer,Ford,to
guarantee Ford fans satisfaction, also put BORN ON DATES on there products! And people make fun of "Fords better ideas"
But know that born on dates are the rage,do you hear any body giving Ford any credit!(?):D And they have used these dates for
what 40 + years!(some times you gotta have a good laugh!)
