Rear seat frame = permanently mounted??
Forgive the retarded question, but y'know those two tubular metal frames the rear seat is mounted to? Are those supposed to not come off, or something? 'Cause I twisted up a Torx bit into a piece of licorice and neither one -- literally -- budged an inch. In either direction. The service manual says nothing about them. I'm on my way to Home Depot to get a 1/2-drive Torx bit and would appreciate a reply from anyone who's completely disassembled their back seat. I was hoping to get the carpet in today but somehow I don't think that's going to happen. :(

*punt*
Really need a hand with this... |
They come off. I broke 2 of my 3/8 bits before i got the 1/2 inch bit for it. And even the 1/2 inch bit got twisted. The damn things are on there tight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spray some PB blaster on torx bolts and let it work over night. This spray really loosens things up even rusted bolts. Good luck with your carpet.
|
Ironically, mine aren't rusted a bit.
Thanks a ton, guys. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't taking apart the rear suspension from inside the car. :D |
Quit buying cheap tools and you wont twist bits like that....:)
|
Mine came right out without a problem. If I remember right they go to the outside of the car so the part sticking through will be rusted.
|
Mine came out fairly easily. I did use Sears Craftsman tools and an impact to break them loose (easily).

I picked up a Craftsman torx bit, and somehow managed to ROUND OFF THE BOLT. ARRRRGGHHHH.
I'm thinking of just taking a keyhole saw to the floopan. Something so simple isn't supposed to be so difficult. |
DO those bolt into a cross piece in the fram? I can't remember and now I have sold my car so i can't go out and look.
I'd just get a drill and drill them out. Or better yet, get a grinder and grind the head of the bolt off, remove the bracket, then grind the stud lef flush with the floor. That way the hole is still plugged. |
Get a REAL BIG easy out............
|
you wouldn't round out a torx bit if it was the right size.
|
Well, the next size up wouldn't fit, and the size down went in but was too small, so it was definitely the right size. Right now, it looks like I'm going to have to chop off the head with an air chisel.
