Exclamation Rear seat frame = permanently mounted??

Forgive the retarded question, but y'know those two tubular metal frames the rear seat is mounted to? Are those supposed to not come off, or something? 'Cause I twisted up a Torx bit into a piece of licorice and neither one -- literally -- budged an inch. In either direction. The service manual says nothing about them. I'm on my way to Home Depot to get a 1/2-drive Torx bit and would appreciate a reply from anyone who's completely disassembled their back seat. I was hoping to get the carpet in today but somehow I don't think that's going to happen.
