Nitrous or Heads/Cam
I'm thinking of adding a few horse to my 90 LX 5.0 T5 with 120,000. Not sure which way to go. 2 options: One is putting in a 75HP shot of nitrous. The other is GT40 aluminum heads and a B303 cam. I'm thinking both would produce about same HP. But I'm concerned about the Nitrous. What damage can it cause? I don't race, its just for meeting those Bowtie boys at stop lights. So what do you guys think, any help is welcome.

id do the heads & cam, but i would use a e303 instead, it is a fav of mine, & others around here. it will be better all around, & still have hp down low. id also get a gt40/cobra intake & 65mm throttle body, 24lb injectors & at least 70mm maf.
if the bottle tune is not right on the money, look out, caus the motor wont hold up. ------------------ 1988 Mustang GT, T-5 3.08's, No Smog Pump (Shorty Belt), Dumps At The End Of Stock H-Pipe, K&N Air Filter (Stock Air Box), Removed air silendcer), 198.9 rwhp @4200 (235 Motor!!), 285 lbs-ft @2900 (336 Motor!!!). the heads cAm & intake will get about 100 hp

What cam is best, and also 50 state legal, especially in California.

Heads and cam... won't put as much stress on the bottom half as the NOS would. More reliable and less noticable. Won't have to go and refill either.

Go with the n/a setup (heads, intake, cam). If you do those three you'll get at leats that 75hp, and if you do the full exhaust (long tubes, high flow cat H, cat back) you'll be seeing even more. The nitrous setup will be about $500+ (I don't do nitrous, someone help) the n/a will be a lot more, maybe 1500? My personal preference would be n/a, start with heads/cam, get an intake setup, then do the exh. You will be spinning 'ties then.

the nitrous would be best in your application. since you dont race. it will help more, be alot cheaper, and it does not have adverse affects on the motor. a 75 hp shot does not put serious strain on the motor. 120,000 on the motor? thats it? juice it. it wount hurt it a bit. and if you get money later then go with the heads and cam. but rethink that setup.

Heads & Cam.
You will be refilling the bottle a lot more then you think. In the long run the bottle will be more expensive. I personally like it N/A it's always better to be faster then the guy on a power adder. |
