Automatic Oh Dang!!!!!
 

Well, I think my AOD popped something major tonight. I turned around a corner and as soon as I gave it a little pedal to accelerate, I heard a POP! and instantly had no gear, like someone stole my driveshaft. After I coasted to a stop, I instantly thought, "mebbe I'm low on tranny fluid," but that checked out okay. Driveshaft is in one piece and the shift linkage is working properly. When you put it into "D", "R", or any other gear, the engine just revs when you hit the gas; no grinding or anything, though a very slight "whirring" noise is now noticeable. This is all I could find out tonight 'cause it's like 10 degrees outside, but mebbe somebody here knows what it could be. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I know what your problem is. You have an aod. But Im sure that you have heard that plenty of times. I dont know about the pop, but when mine has gone out, it will go for awhile as long as you dont step on it. If you do then it'll act just like its in neutral, like yours.
Im going to seitch to a t-5 soon as I get the car back. Heck Ill have a newly rebuilt aod with shift kit with warranty when they get it done(tomorrow or wed.) and would be glad to sell it to you if you need. And Id damm sure beat the 1200.00 that aamco charges to rebuild them. Haha, but Id recommend Lentech or somewhere if you want to have it rebuilt.

I would check to see if you blew your spider gears. It seems odd that it blew right after turning a corner. Get someone to set in the car applying the brakes and put the car in gear. From the side of the car look to see if the driveshaft is spinning. IF it is, figure on new spiders.

Yeah check to see if the driveshaft is turning, and if so I would check the rearend. If not plan on a bad input or output shaft. Check your torque converter nuts to make sure they are still on and tight. I have heard of them shearing, and vibrating off.

The driveshaft isn't spinning at all when it's put into gear, I just found out. I still hear that whirring sound, though...hmm. Next on my list is to pull off the converter cover to see if the converter is still attached to the flexplate. No worries, I'm sure I can fix 'er up, though some sympathy is appreciated. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

If necessary repairs require removal, I plan on upgrading everything I can inside so this doesn't happen again, such as a stamped OD input drum and wider band, plus all new clutches, steels, and everything else. All right, I found out the converter is fine & still bolted on. Ugh....

Next operation: dropping the pan & looking for stray parts. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/rolleyes.gif At least the rebuild kit is only $100, and I might as well get that B&M converter while I'm at it, eh? Trying to be optimistic, I'm thinking someone's trying to tell me "get building this thing!" That's the message I'm getting, anyway. Wish me luck.
