A little birdy under the hood!
 

Hey fellow Mustangers, got a quick question...

When I take my foot off the throttle, there is a high pitched chirping noise coming from underneath the hood that goes away when I apply light pressure to the clutch pedal. WTF is going on? Its driving me batty! :mad: :rolleyes:

I just had the clutch replaced when the engine was installed...did the crappy shop do more shoddy work on the install? Say it ain't so! :(

Well, I had a shop install my clutch. It was only becuase I didn't have access to a lift :rolleyes:

Same thing happens to Sally. When I'm at idle, there is a little squeeking noise that sounds like it's comming from the engine, but it's really the tranny. The clutch fork is just a little lose. I always have my foot on the pedal so I don't notice it unless I'm out of my car. You can try adjusting the tention on your clutch cable. Try that, it might help ya out :)

Did they replace the throwout bearing? They should have.

Ihad the same problem on my 95 it turned out to be the clutch fork vibrating on the ball.I would grease it and it would stay away for a while but would always come back.I finally sold the car but can still hear that sound lol!

Well, for me? Who knows :rolleyes: I'm getting a new tranny here soon and I'm doing EVERYTHING myself. You have to do things yourself these days to know it's done right.:confused:

Is that noise you hear when you push in the clutch? I have this faint "whoop" noise when i push in the clutch in 1st gear. It's very faint and sounds like air pressure somewhere is escaping. It's definitely a pressure sound and not mechanical. Weird. Just wondering if yours sounds the same. Only in 1st gear though :confused:

I'd definitely bet $$ it's the throwout bearing...

ugh that means its almost time for a tranny rebuild doesn't it...

Why does it only make the chirp at certain times? I know NOTHING about trannys, so any advice is much appreciated!!

no you dont need a tranny rebuild. The throwout bearing is inside the clutch fork. It rides around the input shaft of the tranny and gives the fork something to push the pressure plate with.

They come included in all clutch kits, so either the guy didnt install a new one when he put your clutch in, or it was faulty.

Trust me on this one people,i repalced the clutvh as a kit the first time since the I thought it was the bearing too ,the second time i thought well maybe I got a bad bearing (my luck goes that way lol).The third time I started looking for something else and found it as stated in my above post.Get a new fork ball and fork and it will go away.I just keep greasing mine lol,cheap bastard i know!

...another vote for throwout bearing....I know, as I'm on my 3rd one, & the 'bird' still chirps at me all the time....later!

I have a 2.3l LX that does the same thing. Chirps in all gears, rest my foot on the pedal and it goes away. I've been told that it's the throw out bearing, but wouldn't that make noise when the clutch is disengaged (pedal is pushed)??? that is when it is under load. I thought the throw out bearing was just along for the ride when the clutch is engaged??

What the ****??? The clutch is like, 3-4 months old, with under 3,00 miles on it, HD Motorsport...is this something else I can attribute to the stupid *** ******* machine shop????? :rolleyes:

Pardon my french, but it seems everytime I turn around, they have fucked me again. I've already started to try and find out what legal recourse I have against this place, so who knows---maybe this is more salt in the goddamn barrel :mad:

BELLE, my car does it since i bought it. i just touch the clutch pedal and it goes away. i have determined the clutch fork or the throwout bearing. it has 95k on it and it NEVER gave me a problem! if it is the same noise that i am hearing, ignore it, but you cant do that since i dont know what the noise you are hearing. try spraying WD or PB Blaster were the clutch fork is and start it up. if it goes away, it is the clutch fork. if not, it is the throwout bearing or maybe the retainer it rides on. i hope i helped you.;)

My advice is to learn to work on your own car, or get a new hobby.

If you want something done right , you have to do it yourself. This is even more so when it comes to auto repairs.

ok.....this is the same noise i hear from mine and i've heard it on many other mustangs ......same exact noise and symptoms

....not a big problem .......on mine i put a new throw out bearing and an adjustable quatrant in it ........heard this squeeking noise after putting a few miles on it.......at first i was concerned......now that i have over twenty thousand miles on it with no problems ......no concearn any more ..........since then i've heard a few other stangs with the same exact symptoms and never seen it caus a problem

the culprit....the throw out bearing ......the cause .....if your clutch is adjusted so that there is no tension on the cable when the clutch is disengaged (the way it supposed to be) what happens is the throw out bearing slows down or stops turning but is still next to the forks on the pressure plate .......the noise comes when the forks on the pressure plate are baerly rubbing against the throw out bearing ....not enought to keep it turning but just enough to rub it and make an irritating noise

easy cure .....go to the hardware store, get a cheap low tension spring (a screen door spring works).......install it on the linkage at the transmission so it puts a small amount of tension on the clutch lever pulling it just a scoosh away from the clutch ........if its a low tension spring it won't make the clutch harder to engage but it'll keep the throw out bearing from touching the forks on the pressure plate

or if your lazy like me .....just turn the radio up :D

just wanted to add ....this isn't really a problem with the install ......if your shop adjusted your clutch properly ,this can still happen ........i did my own clutch and trans install and had the same problem and i've seen the same problem with other mustangs .......it's pretty common ,not a problem with the install .......if anything let them know that you had a problem and how you fixed it ......(read above post)

i havn't read about the other problems you've had with your shop so i don't know what else they did ,but as for the clutch i wouldn't make a fuss ....
