PKRWUD - Need some professional help
This is not a Ford question, but I figured since this is such a diverse message board this was the fastest way to get an answer, and I'd appreciate it if this post could at least stay here until resolved.
My friend has a Chevy Z71 pickup with a 350 in it. He said it falls on it's face when you accelerate, unless you baby it. He said it just started all of a sudden. He's been told it may be the TPS sensor. Could that be the culprit? If so, how do I diagnos this for him? I know how to set the TPS on a Ford. Is it similar? I assume it is an electrical or fuel problem since it was running fine one minute, then crappy the next. Any other ideas? Any help you could give me on this matter would be greatly appreciated. |

I'm jumping between a job in the garage and my Mac... What can I help you with?
|
I just need to know how to check a TPS on a 97 Z71 Chevy pickup, and where to set the voltage at if a new one needs to be installed.
|
Do it exactly like you would on a Ford. Dark blue wire is the signal wire, and black is the ground. Set it between .50vdc and .85vdc at idle. Check to see that it increases smoothly as you open the throttle. It probably won't, and will need to be replaced. VERY common GM problem.
Take care, ~Chris |

how do you guys change the fuel pump on the Chevy pickups? I had to do one on a '96 Z71... do you guys drop the tank or remove the bed? :D

:D I unbolted the bed, disconnected the grounds, and set the front part of it on the tires, then changed the pump... I laughed so hard when I was told to do it this way, but it was really easy afterall.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll check his TPS, then do the fuel system checks. I'll let you know as soon as I figure something out.
Oh yeah. I think the truck has around 90k miles on it on it. |
I helped do a couple fuel pumps at a pontiac/GMC truck dealer that i worked at over the summer. What we did was remove all of the bed bolts except for the rear 2 which we loosened up. Then since the truck was on a lift, we put exhaust stands (tall jack stands) up towards the front of the bed, and then lowered the lift. This lowered the truck but tilted the bed way up so we could get to the tank and remove the pump.
Now if you dont have a lift, I dont think it would be nearly that easy:) good luck with it Kevin, sorry I'm just wasting a post:D |
