Stock Head Porting...
I am going to have my heads rebuilt on my '89 LX. I was thinking about getting them ported instead of dropping $1000 plus on aftermarket heads. What is the best way to explain the port work that I want done to a machine shop? I have a fairly stock motor except for a few bolt ons. I am trying to start with the heads and work from there. I am not after huge HP gains. Just better flowing heads that will yield better power with minor bolt ons.

Just tell them exactly what you just told us. Mention matching the ports, too.

Match the ports of the lower intake to the heads, or the exhaust/intake ports on the heads? Thanks Chris. You are always helpful.

Don't forget to tell them to take out the hump in top of exhaust port. Gasket match lower intake to intake side of head. Tapper into head about an inch. Smooth out any rough areas and if not to much money do some bowl blending. If you can get die grinder and some burs. Summit sells a book that is very helpfull in doing this yourself. Takes some time but a lot less money.

Those are all good points. I was referring to having the intake ports matched to the lower intake.

It's probaly going to cost $500+ to have your heads ported. Just save up a little more and get some TRICK FLOW's , or AFR's. Ported stockers can't touch those.
