Hmmm...COuld of been many of things, but probably a burned up head gasket or a cracked head.
Do ya get any signs of compression leaking into the cooling system (Take your radiator cap off and see if bubbles come up when your cranking). Or any in the oiling system?
I did I super high speed prolonged run in my old Stang once (The 64 1/2 with the 289) and managed to successfully burn up three Valves seats and kill an equal amount of Exhaust valves. It was awesome (Not really).
