How fast do you want to go? With 3:73 gears, 26 inch tall tires, you can hit 200 mph @6500 RPM in 5th gear. If you wanted a 9k RPM engine, you would need to spend about $20,000 on the engine. Ever see those NA pro mod engines? theres a Probe [powered by a destroked 351 (302 ci) pushing about 730 horses at 9,300 RPM. It costs $75,000 to biuld an engine like that. And he has to check the valve springs in between each run, and replaces the crank/rod/cam bearings every 50 runs. Now, do you really think its worth the money to buy a 9k+ rpm engine for the street?

Check out bennett racing, they make a short block that will take 8k rpm and 2500 horses for $10,950. Then add in the cost of cylinder heads that will make power at that RPM level (at least 400 cfm intake) thats another $8,500. Then all the other components. Do the math.
