I've had mine both higher and lower and it doesn't make a bit of difference. When the LL isn't engaged, its passing fluid pressure straight through so if there's air in the line, you should be able to bleed it out normally. If you've got a soft pedal, I'd double-check your plumbing to make sure you haven't swapped something at the proportioning valve.
