I'm thinkin tranny. If the clutch was not completely disengaging it should still pop out of gear on trailing throttle. Something inside is causing it to hang on to fifth gear. The second t-5 I rebuilt this month was doing the same thing in 4th gear. . .among other things. It turned out to be a blocker ring on 4th gear with about half the teeth broken off. Couple that with some really worn bearings and I had to rebuild.
