Default Will it hurt the engine to run with the IAC unhooked for a few days?

I replaced the IAC over the weekend and my high idle is worse than before, except that every once in a while it will drop to normal levels. I unhook it and the idle is fine. I need to figure this out, but I won't have time to look at the EGR, TPS, codes until the weekend (unless someone has a quick, seat-o-the-pants answer) and I need to drive the car. I can't imagine it would do damage, but wanted to make sure. Thanx.

It's fine at start up. After driving about 20 minutes, I'll come to a light, put in the clutch and the RPMs are somewhere between 1500 and 3000. It picks an idle and sticks there (for example at one light it might be at 2000, next light is 2500, next is 1500. It doesn't actively fluctuate). With the new IAC, sometimes it will return back to normal. I thought it might be the TPS, but doesn't that make the idle fluctuate while seeking it? Sometimes the idle doesn't stick at all. It drives just fine, accelerates fine. The check engine light has never come on. Any ideas?
