Default tranny slip

my friends 66 mustang has just started this problem.. when going from a stop the trasmission will slip.. meaning when she starts to press the gas pedal the rpm's will go up but the car will not move. then after about 2 or 3 seconds the tranny will go into gear. this has just started happening after no other changes.. this car is otherwise very well taken care of. I know that it is not a low fluid problem becase fluid has ben added to make shure of this. what could cause this and it is difficult to fix? any info on c4 sites will help..thanks

66 mustang 289 2bbl high compression heads. stock tranny and gears. driven by typical highschool teenager. thanks for your help guys..

Default Low line pressure

Sounds like low line pressure to me. Probably the transmission oil pump not up to snuff. My bet is that it will need a rebuild in the not too distant future. I'm not really an expert on transmissions though. Just my guess.

My son and I just got done getting his tranny problems worked out..his car had been sitting indoors for 14 years and all the o-rings in the tranny where shot..we tried to rebuid it and learned alot..Tried being a key word..we ordered a rebuilt one form one of the mags and had terrible luck with it. Luckily they gave us great customer service and refunded his money. Ended up taking the orginal tranny to the shop that fixed our mistakes and now it works pefectly..and the transgo shift kit is a nice touch..

Might possibly be something real simple like needing new (not more, just new) fluid and a new filter. If the filter's clogged it can cause slipping.....Hopefully it's a simple problem like this, rather than needing a rebuild. Good luck.....

If no one has been in the trans. pan...sounds like trans. is on the way out. O rings are hard and pressure is low.

C-4's have a screen type filter with a poppet valve under them that can be cleaned. BUT, you have to put the valve and spring back in. MANY, MANY people forget them, or don't see them and destroy the trans.

Transmission needs overhaul.
