transmission? I recently bought a 1969 Coupe with a 351 Cleveland in it. The transmission is automatic but I don't know which one. How can I tell what transmission is in it without taking the thing out of the car? Thanks.

There's no data plate on the door so I can't find out there. I thought the VIN would tell the engine but not the trans. According to the VIN, the car was originally a 6er but is now a 351C. Is there any code stamped onto the outside of the trans that would tell me?

Maybe this will help. C-6, is a large aluminum case trans. The bellhousing is integral with the body. Pan is large square with a smaller bump out at the rear. C-4, is a small aluminum case trans. The bellhousing is seperate from the trans body. Pan is small rectangle. FMX, is a cast iron case trans. The bellhousing is usually aluminum and is seperate from the body. The tail housing is also aluminum. Pan is square.
